How Do We Consult with Health Care
Organizations?
When we work with an
organization, we do it with a view of the complex
individuals that make up that organization.
This is particularly important with health systems, as the people in
the group - and the
nature of the work - create the complexity that can make change so
difficult.
Generally, our consulting work with health systems focuses on taking
the
organizations where they currently are – often reactive and
slow to change – and giving
the physician executives the tools they need to begin to
move the
system to
where it needs to be … responsive, adaptive to change, and
focused on innovative thinking. We do this within the context of current or
planned organizational initiatives, via
on-site consulting programs where we work to assess how well the
organization is doing in key agility areas and then implement
a plan to “upgrade” the group to where they
need to be.

How Do We Help
Organizations Improve?
Our approach is based on what
we know works with organizations of any kind:
the delivery of a structured,
time-bound
consulting program that
addresses each group’s unique
needs.
Typically, individuals managing or leading health organizations may approach us for the following
reasons:
- They are tasked with implementing a new
initiative in separate or
disconnected sites, and need to bring their physician leaders together
at each location to work together in a coordinated way
- They are tasked with rolling out a new
program with a staff or
workforce that has traditionally been kept "out of the loop" or has not
been involved in the strategic planning, and they are anticipating
resistance
- They need to build a higher level of
responsiveness and flexibility in
their groups, in anticipation of a new program or initiative on the
horizon
- They recognize the need for "Agility",
and want to implement a strategic plan to enhance this competency in
their group
In our organizational work, we typically work with groups
via
a 4-step Consulting
Program that helps you to accomplish
the following:
- Assess
your group’s overall “Agility Rating”,
and identify key barriers
that are impacting your ability to adapt to
change
- Get your key stakeholders educated/trained on
the process of building agility and your group’s readiness
for change
- Develop
your unique strategy and action plan to meet your goals
- Implement
your defined “agility” actions
As part of our Health Organization Consulting work, we also offer 1-day Workshops
that target small groups of Physician Leaders
(typically 6-10). Here we dive into the key concepts around
building Agility in your health organizations, and create individualized strategies for each
group.
We also conduct Speaking
Engagements and Lectures, on topics related (but not limited)
to:
- Managing Change in Your Health
Organization
- Leveraging Complexity in Your Organization
- Dealing With
“Resistance” From Your Front-Line Staff
- Building Expert Change Competencies
- Becoming a Strategic Communicator
