About Ashley Wendel, M.A., C.M.C., P.D.C.
Dear
Physician Leaders,
Thank
you for taking the time to read through
High Agility Healthcare's website - I hope some of it
resonates for
you, or "hits the nail on the head" as it were! I have found
that
while all organizations have unique characteristics that need to be
leveraged (particularly health organizations), there are some
similarities that drive many of the frustrations that you as physician
leaders have. I hope that you have seen that, and found the
beginning
to some solutions here.
A
little bit about me: I came to this work by way of a few
different
fields - starting my professional life with graduate study and work in
Clinical Psychology (specifically Behavioral Medicine), and then by
moving into the fast-paced world of
change management consulting with high-technology companies during the
extremely tumultuous late-90's and through the economic
downturn after 9/11 and early 2000s.

I experienced and built skills in two very different worlds, which I
utilize every day in my work with health care physican-executives and
organizations. I have spent the last 15 years building my
toolkit, which takes the best of what I used successfully in the
corporate world and augments it to address the unique needs of health
care organizations. I am more than happy to share this
collection of "best practices" with you in our work together.
I came to physician-executive coaching after I
realized that 1) I really did want to spend more time working
one-on-one with individuals, and 2) that returning back to healthcare
was my passion. I had started coaching informally with many
of my management consulting clients, and I realized that it was a
"natural fit" for
me - and also an excellent bridge between the clinical/diagnostic
skills
that I had practiced in psychology, and the
strategic, action-oriented planning that made up my consulting work
with Accenture.
But, I also recognized that true,
effective coaching - that which promotes real, sustainable
behavior change - requires the right kind of study and a
strong basis in evidence-based research and techniques. So, I
chose my coaching training carefully ... first choosing to go with the
very rigorous Behavioral Coaching Institute, based out of the U.K.
(headed by Dr. Suzanne Skiffington, a prolific author and world-class
educator in behavioral coaching), and second by honing my skills in
physician development and health care strategy by studying with the
Physician Coaching Institute, based out of the U.S (headed by Francine
Gaillour, M.D., a industry leader in physician coaching and
professional fufilment).
Choosing the right executive coach or organizational consultant is a
critical
decision! I would encourage each of you to "do your research" and
identify the specific
kind of person that would be the right fit to help
guide you as you venture to make the changes that will affect your
professional life. Finding the right partner in your journey is
key.
The good news is that you do not have to
be satifisfied with the status quo, particularly when "what has always
worked" is just not enough anymore. No matter your
situation or position, there is always room for growth... as you tap into both your and your health
organization's real potential for change, the rewards
will be tremendous.
Warmest Regards,
Ashley
Wendel
